Chosen and Loved

OPENING PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, thank You for choosing us and calling us Your children. As we explore Your Word today, open our hearts to understand the depth of Your love and the security we have in You. Holy Spirit, guide us into all truth. Amen.

READ: Romans 8:14-17

"For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, 'Abba, Father.' The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory."

REFLECT:

In the Roman world, adoption was a powerful concept. An adopted child was given full rights as a legitimate heir, just as Augustus was adopted by Julius Caesar and became the heir to the Roman Empire. Paul uses this imagery to convey the profound truth that as believers, we are adopted into God's family. This adoption is not just a legal formality; it is a transformation of identity. We are no longer slaves to fear but are children of God, able to call Him "Abba, Father," a term of deep intimacy and trust.

The message reminds us that being chosen by God means we are secure in His love. Even when life presents challenges, like the young man Jimmy facing health issues, or Doug experiencing the pain of divorce, the assurance of being God's child provides a foundation of hope and strength. We are not alone; we are deeply loved and have access to all the resources of heaven.

As you reflect on this truth, consider how it changes your perspective on your current struggles. Knowing you are chosen and loved by God can transform fear into faith and despair into hope. Embrace your identity as a child of God and let it guide you through life's challenges.

I WILL STATEMENT:

I will run to the Father in prayer with the difficulties and the brokenness of my life.

CLOSING PRAYER:

Father, thank You for adopting me into Your family and calling me Your child. Help me to live in the confidence of Your love and provision. As I face challenges, remind me of my identity in You and guide me with Your Spirit. Amen.
