Empowered Action
OPENING PRAYER:
Gracious God, as we explore how to live out our faith, teach us how to align our actions with our new identity in You. May Your Spirit lead us into empowered living. Amen.
"Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live."
Romans 8:12-13 (NIV)
REFLECT:
Paul speaks of an obligation, not to the flesh, but to the Spirit. This obligation is not burdensome; rather, it is a call to live in the freedom and power of the Spirit. The message this past weekend emphasized that God does not want us to perform but to transform. This transformation is a daily process of saying no to our sinful desires and yes to the Spirit's leading.
The concept of "putting to death the misdeeds of the body" can seem daunting, but it is a call to action that is empowered by the Spirit. We are not left to our own devices; the Spirit equips us to overcome sin and live righteously. This is not about striving in our strength but about surrendering to the Spirit's work in us.
Consider the areas of your life where you feel powerless. How can you invite the Holy Spirit into these areas to bring transformation? Remember, the Spirit's power is made perfect in our weakness. Trust in His ability to bring about change and take the first step in faith.
I WILL STATEMENT:
I will say “no” to myself so I can say “yes” to God's Holy Spirit.
One way to do that this week could be to Identify one habit or behavior that you need to surrender to the Holy Spirit. Pray for strength and guidance to overcome it, and think about practical ways to live that out.
CLOSING PRAYER:
Father, thank You for the power of Your Spirit at work in me. Help me to put to death the misdeeds of the body and live in the freedom You offer. Transform my actions to reflect Your love and grace. Amen.
